Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Hou Man Do
WHAT YOU ARE WALKING INTO.
THE STANDARD
Belts follow the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation: white, grey, yellow, orange and green for children; white, blue, purple, brown and black for adults. Time on the mat is logged. Nobody is promoted for attendance.
WHO IT IS FOR
Children learn to fall, to frame, to escape and to keep their head when someone bigger is on top of them. Adults get positional sparring from the first week and open mat on Saturdays, no-gi.
THE TEAM
HB BJJ competes at IBJJF and local tournaments. The team crest is earned, not bought.

The first fourteen days
FOURTEEN DAYS. THEN THE YEAR.
Everyone who walks in begins the same way: fourteen days of any class on the schedule and the master’s placement at the end of it. Kids $49. Teens and adults $69. One fee, paid once. Nothing renews.
Questions
Gi or no-gi?
Both. Weekday classes are in the gi; Saturday noon is no-gi. A gi can be bought at the desk; the first two weeks you may borrow one.
Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for children?
It is one of the safest arts for a child: no striking, close supervision, and a tap ends everything. Children roll with children.
I have trained elsewhere. Do I keep my belt?
Bring your belt and your lineage. The master watches you for the first fourteen days and places you honestly.
